Association of Roma Novi Becej as a part of the project "Speak up - it's your turn!" supported by the Norwegian Embassy and the UNWOMEN office in Serbia held on 04.07.2022. in Novi Sad, round table "Examples of good practice in the process of improving institutional responses for the protection of women from gender-based violence on local level". Ms. Danica Jovanovic, president of the Association, opened the round table and thanked those present for recognizing the importance of work on the topic of violence against women in rural areas and how important institutional mechanisms and responses to violence and gender equality are. The President of the Association also gave more details about the project activities and the results that were achieved through research and work in 10 municipalities during the 6 months of the project implementation.

Other participants in the event were: Ms. Jelena Jovanović, the only Roma parliament representative who spoke about mechanisms and support for women from marginalized groups, the duty completer director of the Center for Social work Alibunar, Ms. Sandra Skumpija presented the capacities of CfSW and how much progress has been made in that work, and that they solve all the problems they face with the available sources and mechanisms, Ms. Dejana Djurdjevic, representative of the municipality of Sid, spoke about the needs of women in the countryside and rural areas. Councilwoman from Sremski Karlovac, Ms. Zivana Zivanovic, presented an example of good practice in her municipality. The coordinator of the Roma Women's Network of Serbia, Ms. Radmila Zecirovic, spoke about the position of women in the countryside and briefly presented the work of the Roma Women's Network of Serbia. The representative of the National Council, Ms. Dobrila Djin, spoke about the needs of rural women and what obstacles women face. In addition to being a member of the National Council, she is also the coordinator for Roma issues in the Municipality of Becej and what she notices as a problem is that in town halls or municipalities, there are not equal measures for everyone. She shared the experience of discrimination with those present.

Pedagogical assistant from Zabalj, Zivka Fan presented examples of good practice from the education segment.

The event was also attended by the provincial Ombudsman, Prof. PhD. Zoran Pavlović, who expressed the opinion that the topic and discussion of this event deserves special attention and that it is necessary to form multi-sector teams, that cooperation between NGOs and the Office for Roma Inclusion is important, laws should be respected, applied and adequately enforced.
