Forum of Women’s NGOs of Kyrgyzstan by the Global Fund for Women initiatives held the Conference “Challenging fundamentalisms in Eurasia/Central Asia” in 8-10 August 2018, Bishkek, in Kyrgyzstan.

The goal of the Conference was to  strengthen understanding and collective awareness of rising fundamentalist movements in the region as well as key threats and challenges that resulted from these movements, to explore and develop feminist strategies to challenge rising fundamentalisms and its impact and to  identify collaboration opportunities between women rights movements and other social justice movements to jointly raise awareness and expose and resist religious fundamentalists and extremist groups.

On fundamentalism in Serbia and it influence on status of women’s rights and rights of Roma women, during the first day of the Conference was presented by the representative of the Association of Roma Novi Becej, Ms. Zorica Surlan in partnership with activists of Women in Black. Association of Roma Novi Becej had pointed to strict traditional norms that apply in Roma woman’s life, customary law that reduced importance of women, their education, employment and socialization.
