
The Campaign Month of Roma Women`s Activism that lasts each year in the period from March 8th – International Women`s Day until April 8th – International Roma Day. Trough this Campaign that is implemented since 2010, organisations and initiatives that form Roma Women`s Network of Serbia implement series of manifestations and activities all around Serbia.
Under the framework of this year Campaign, on April 3rd, 2018, the Public Hearing in the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia was held in partnership with the Board for Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality. Within the activity, the participants were addressed by representatives of the Ministry of the Labour and Social Policy, Coordination Body for monitoring the implementation of the National Strategy fro Social Inclusion of Roma women and men, international organisation CARE International and UNICEF, Ethnographic institute of the Serbian Academy of Science and Art (SANU) and Roma Women’s Network of Serbia. During the event, Danica Jovanovich, president of the Association of Roma Novi Beech, talked to the gathered participants, drawing attention to the problem of early, arranged marriages and violations of rights of girls and children trough this practice, which is widespread in rural areas of Banat and all within the research “Child Marriages in Serbia” conducted by UNICEF and Serbian Academy of Science and Art (SANU).
